Whitney Wessels, MSW, LICSW
I’m Whitney, the W(h)it in Whit Wonder Wisdom Counseling, Inc. I work with couples, individuals, caregivers, and parents. My primary focus is with couples, medical professionals, and those with life limiting illnesses.
With a background in medical settings, a primary niche of my practice is with doctors, nurses, medical professionals, residents and fellows, and all those in high-stress, demanding careers or training. I have over a decade of experience working alongside people diagnosed with serious illnesses, specifically cancer, and their caregivers, as well those grieving a loss. I also specialized in medical trauma.
I work with couples, polycules, and individuals who want to strengthen their partnership(s) and relationships in general. I’m a sex positive, poly friendly, kink aware therapist, who works at all intersections of sexuality (LGBTQ+) and gender.

A secure, comfortable space to explore your emotions
I use validation, wit, psychoeducation, and honest communication to explore emotions and develop a secure, comfortable space. In sessions, I help my clients reflect on current stressors and soothe past hurts. I encourage clients to connect with their authentic selves and re-establish confidence. Throughout the work, clients connect emotionally, establish new patterns of interaction, and re-develop a secure base with loved ones.
A range of clinical approaches to improve your well-being
I draw from a range of evidence-based clinical approaches to promote insight and access emotions.
As an Emotion Focused Therapist and a Certified Gottman Therapist, I help clients alleviate distress within partnership, increase relational repairs, and truncate conflict cycles. I pull from these relational approaches to improve communication and enhance connectedness.
I use a social justice and trauma-informed lens when working with all clients. I am trained in and utilize Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) strategies, as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to improve daily coping and process trauma.
